The Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony will be held at 6:30pm on June 20. This year’s eighth grade class contains 265 students and represents the second largest class in the district. In addition, the Windham Middle School area is under construction and there is more limited space available for parking and events. As a result, we have been working closely with the Windham Fire Department and Windham Police Department on logistics for this year's ceremony. After many discussions and evaluating many options, we have had to move this year's event to Windham High School in order to meet fire code and safety regulations. The event will be held indoors in the gymnasium since we are unable to satisfy a rain date due to snow days, conflicting events and logistics. In addition, we need to enforce a five guest ticket limit per student. Promoting Grade 8 students and WMS students performing in the band or chorus do not require a ticket.

Question: Can I get more than five guest tickets to the promotion ceremony?

Answer: No, each Grade 8 student receives five guest tickets and there are no exceptions. Promoting students and those WMS students performing in the band or chorus do not require a ticket. If you would like to make arrangements with another family to use tickets that they might not need, you are welcome to do so and are responsible for making those arrangements.


Question: Will tickets be collected at the door?

Answer: Yes, tickets are being collected at the door. No one will be allowed into the ceremony without a ticket and the Windham Fire Department and staff will be monitoring capacity.


Question: Do small children need a ticket?

Answer: Yes, all persons regardless of age or size require a ticket. The only exception to those requiring a ticket is promoting students and those students performing in the band or chorus.


Question: I need more than five guest tickets, how do other family members and friends see the ceremony?

Answer: There will be a live stream of the ceremony in the WHS Auditorium and additional family members are welcome to view the ceremony there. Tickets are not required to watch the ceremony in the auditorium. Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until the auditorium reaches its capacity of 600 persons.


Question: How do I get my tickets?

Answer: Tickets will not be sent home with students. Tickets will be available at the Windham Middle School Office beginning on June 4. Parents are required to sign for their own tickets and no appointment is required. You will not be able to pick up other families’ tickets.


Question: What if I lose my tickets?

Answer: Tickets will not be replaced if lost, no exceptions. We recommend that you place your tickets in a safe place until June 20 or pick them up close to the event.


Question: My child is performing in the band and/or chorus as part of the ceremony, do they need a ticket? Can I go and watch them?

Answer: Students that are performing with the band or chorus do not need a ticket. Performers will need to be dropped off and picked up for the ceremony. Tickets will not be provided to band and chorus parents as this is not an official band/chorus concert and participation is optional.


Question: Will the WMS Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony be held indoors at WHS next year or in subsequent years?

Answer: Not necessarily. We will continue to evaluate our promotion ceremony on an annual basis and adjust plans accordingly.
